Frank Calabria & Paula Gold-Williams: Energy Distribution, Integration and Price

Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy co-directors, professors Sally Benson and Arun Majumdar, lead a conversation on the Future of Energy with Frank Calabria, CEO, Origin Energy, and Paula Gold-Williams, President & CEO, CPS Energy. CPS Energy is one of the largest municipal utilities in the US-based in San Antonio, Texas. Origin Energy is a leading Australian energy company with interests in retail, generation and natural gas. The Dialogue brings out unique insights about the energy transition that they and their customers are facing during the current pandemic, and also highlights how that impacts the longer-term issues related to customer choice and grid decarbonization.

 

Frank Calabria was appointed CEO of Origin Energy, a leading Australian energy company with interests in retail, generation and natural gas, in October 2016. In that time, Origin has committed to halve its direct emissions by 2032, doubled the amount of renewables in its portfolio and launched a new brand and values under the banner of “good energy”. Frank has also been a leading advocate on behalf of more than 4 million Origin customers for energy policy that encourages investment in a clean energy future and improves affordability. Frank was previously responsible for leading Origin’s Energy Markets business which comprises a retail business with a broad range of energy products and solutions and a diverse gas, power generation and renewable energy portfolio. Frank was also Origin’s chief financial officer from 2001 to 2009. Frank is a board member of the Australian Energy Council and the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association. He is former chairman of the Australian Energy Council and former director of Australian Energy Market Operator.

Paula Gold-Williams is the President & CEO of CPS Energy. Paula leads more than 3,100 team members with the vision she has coined “People First,” whereby CPS Energy is evolving its efforts to create and deliver value to its customers, community, and employees into a new age of energy solutions. Paula has more than 30 years of leadership experience in San Antonio, including being a Regional Controller for Time Warner’s regional office and the VP of Finance for Luby’s, Inc. before coming to CPS Energy in late 2004. Over her 16 years at CPS Energy, she has progressively served as Controller & Assistant Treasurer; VP & Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) – Organizational Excellence & Shared Services; EVP, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Treasurer; and EVP – Financial & Administrative Services, CFO & Treasurer. In addition to her role at CPS Energy, Paula serves on a broad portfolio of boards and committees and is the Immediate Past Chair of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Further, Paula was awarded the inaugural Chief Trailblazer of the Year award by S&P Global Platts for her innovation and commitment to customers and her community.
