Scaling New Energy Technology: A Conversation with Ashok Belani & Bruce Niemeyer

This is a conversation with Ashok Belani, executive vice president, Schlumberger New Energy, and Bruce Niemeyer, vice president of Strategy and Sustainability for Chevron Corporation as we discuss innovation, business models and policy required for global energy transformation. Ashok is responsible for the deployment of differentiated technologies and practices to decarbonize E&P operations and the development of new avenues of growth in emerging markets with carbon-neutral technologies. The Schlumberger New Energy organization includes early ventures for investing in businesses with the potential for new energy technology development, adjacent businesses for leveraging Schlumberger’s expertise in oil and gas through subsurface characterization and drilling activities, and new energy deployments that focus on new domains and associated business opportunities.  Bruce is responsible for guiding development of Chevron's key strategies including capital allocation and sustainability efforts, where focused efforts included investments in low-carbon technology to enable commercial solutions, and large-scale carbon capture and storage operations.

The session was hosted by Professor Sally Benson, Precourt Family Professor, Energy Resources Engineering, Stanford University, and Professor Yi Cui, Materials Science & Engineering; Director, Precourt Institute for Energy, Stanford University.
