Lei Zhang

CEO, Envision Group

Lei is the CEO of Envision Group. Over the past eleven years, he has led Envision to its current position as the world’s leading renewable and digital energy company. Envision owns the world’s leading Energy IoT Operating System, EnOS™, currently managing 100GW of energy assets globally. The company’s heritage is in the wind sector and currently, Envision has become one of the world’s leading wind technology companies.

The old energy paradigm is breaking down and will be replaced by a new era of energy. To integrate and synergize the fragmented and distributed energy system, Lei considers a digital foundation as the key to accelerate the energy transition. He led the company to create EnOS™, the first-of-its-kind Energy IoT Operating System in the world. EnOS™ is a smart and scalable system based on open source technology, connecting silo data and systems to enable the Internet of Things for Energy. It covers multiple business domains including wind power, solar PV systems, thermal power plants, EV and charging networks, storage batteries, smart grids, smart buildings, smart homes, smart cities, and intelligent electrical terminals.

Under Lei’s strategic leadership, Envision is building an intelligent global energy ecosystem with EnOS™ by cooperating with the world's leading enterprises and strategically investing in companies, such as the largest European residential storage company Sonnen, the World's largest EV charging network company ChargePoint, the leading smart grid big data provider AutoGrid, the leading IoT security tech company Protectwise, and one of the founding and most successful Formula E teams Envision Virgin Racing and etc. In 2017, Envision announced an open-platform Energy IoT and Smart City Technology Alliance with Microsoft, Accenture and ARM to help accelerate the clean energy transition through digitalization.

Lei was named as one of the “Top 10 Sino-U.S. Innovators of the Year” by Forbes China and was reported as Cover Figure by Fortune magazine. He is also elected as the commissioner of the world-leading organization Energy Transition Commission (ETC).
