Stanford University lies in the heart of one of the world’s most unique ecosystems that continues to shape the world through its innovations and talent.  As the premier energy event at Stanford, the Global Energy Forum brings together a unique delegation of 600 global citizens, industry leaders, energy experts, and innovative problem solvers to holistically address the challenges of the transforming global energy ecosystem. The Inaugural Forum in 2018 focused on The Future of Energy.  After two postponements due to COVID, the Global Energy Forum resumed in November of 2022 where the focus was on Accelerating Energy Solutions at Speed and Scale. 

FROM THE HOSTS

Much has changed since the impressive debut of Stanford Global Energy Forum in 2018. Technologies for the sustainable and affordable generation and storage of energy have advanced significantly. More corporations and other entities around the word have committed to net-zero carbon emissions and, in the near term, actions to reduce the carbon footprint of their operations. Addressing climate change and environmental justice have become top priorities for the U.S. federal government, among others. Most recently, energy has returned as a top national security concern around the world.

Transitioning to low-carbon energy systems while extending the benefits of these systems to all people is a huge, dual challenge. It also offers the biggest opportunity of the 21st century. This is a major transformation of energy systems globally – a $10 trillion per year industry.

The Global Energy Forums are meant to help you make sense of this emerging world and your organization’s place in it. Powerful keynotes and moderated discussions will offer objective, balanced perspectives on the future of mobility, the electricity sector, energy storage, investment trends, climate policy, and geopolitics.

Facing the global challenges of the 21st century requires a culture of openness to new ideas and balanced constructive dialogue. Convening leaders for these days together is critical to understand, appreciate and shape the future of energy.

HISTORY OF THE FORUM

The Vail Global Energy Forum, a vision of founder Jay Precourt, was started in 2011 with the goal of advancing the public understanding of global energy via fact-based balanced dialogue. Each year, over 300 stakeholders convened in Colorado where, in later years, the forum focused on North America as a rising power in energy. The Global Energy Forum moved to its permanent home at Stanford University in the Fall of 2018 where it explored the rapidly changing worldwide energy ecosystem and address the implications of these changes.
